Here are some interviews I’ve done with some really great personalities in the strength and fitness community, who all have very valuable contributions to make. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed doing them.

Tim Henriques – Tim and I discuss the relative benefit of using pistols in a strength training regimen. Tim argues that they don’t contribute towards a good back squat and I agree but don’t necessarily think that means they don’t develop leg strength.
Bret Contreras – Bret talks about his stratospheric rise to internet fame as a strength and fitness writer, his respect and enjoyment of bodybuilding, his approach to sports-specific training, and, of course, the importance of training the glutes!
Eric J Moss – Eric is a well-known RKC and runs a popular blog in which he punctures commonly held myths and misconceptions about training. He is often found berating famous trainers for their appalling kettlebell form. In this interview, we talk about his own preferred training style, his background and goals and why he can’t ever seem to find his shirt.
Rob Russell – Rob is a Yorkshire strongman, a man mountain, former shot and discus thrower and grip fanatic. He can do things with a kettlebell that you will not see anyone else doing unless you go to Russia. In this interview, he reveals some of his training secrets.
Steve Kamb - Steve runs the successful internet fitness venture, Nerd Fitness, a site dedicated to the health and fitness of people who view an evening watching the whole of Lord of the Rings as time well spent. In this interview, we talk about his success, his choice to become an entrepreneur and his own strength goals.
Josh Hanagarne – Josh is the brains behind the World’s Strongest Librarian blog, an RKC, Gym Movement trainer and compulsive bookworm. He is one of the most difficult people to pin down I have ever met but in consequence is absolutely fascinating.
Brent Barbe – Brent is an inveterate strength sports competitor, having competed at strongman, highland games and grip. He’s an extraordinarily thoughtful athlete and has some remarkable views on the psychology of competition and competing.
Isaac Wilkins - Isaac is a self-confessed “educated meathead” and it shows. He write an awesome blog called New Polymath, where he talks about all kinds of manly matters and the general degradation of society. In this interview, we talk about how Isaac trains athletes and some of the great results he has been getting.
Mike T Nelson (part one) – Mike runs the provocative site, Extreme Human Performance, which covers recent research in sports performance. In this interview, he talks about a huge range of different topics, including stress, sleep, old-time strongmen, why you should be careful how much you abuse your foam roller, what it is like to be stereo-blind and the importance of kite-boarding at every opportunity.
Mike T Nelson (part two) – Mike talks about his research into metabolic flexibility. He goes into detail about what metabolic flexibility is, how to get it and why you need it.
Rob Newman (part one) – Rob talks about his background in martial arts and yoga and reveals what it is like to build up a million pound business only to lose it all and start again stacking shelves.
Rob Newman (part two) – Rob discusses his foray into bodybuilding, his routines, his daily diet and the health consequences that he faced as a result of drifting into assisted territory.
Doug Brignole – Doug is a competitive bodybuilder and well-known writer on IronManMagazine. He and I correspond about the difficulties inherent in overhead pressing, why other exercises might be kinder to the shoulders, and what decision process people should go through before they put a bar over their heads.
Juan Lancaster (Sumoman) – Juan and I discuss the benefits of training partial lifts, the relative ineffectiveness of HIT training, various pieces of homemade gym equipment he has constructed, and his prowess at strongman despite weighing about 75kg (165lbs).
Matt Palfrey – Matt runs the awesome sandbag site, Sandbag Fitness, and trains athletes for a living. He also runs a health and wellbeing business called Elevate Wellbeing in the UK for businesses and their employees.
Mike of Fat Fiction – Mike is the first wholly nutrition blogger that I interviewed, and it was a great opportunity to find out more about his theory that obesity is actually a disease of malnutrition… He’s also another fellow Brit, so it was good to show some solidarity.
Lee Saxby – Lee is a world-reknowned barefoot running coach who runs clinics in the US, Europe and the UK for fitness professionals wanting to help clients learn how to run barefoot safely after spending much of their lives in shoes.
Jeff Noel – Jeff is an up-and-coming throwing coach who thinks very carefully and cares very deeply about his training plan for his athletes. In this interview, he explains his approach to training, throwing and always learning new things.
