About

My name is Chris Beardsley and I set up this site to help personal trainers, athletes and strength trainees train more effectively in their garage gyms.  I’m a qualified personal trainer, a dedicated strength athlete and I write a daily blog about all kinds of health and fitness issues.

Most weeks, you’ll find that I write a book review and either a couple of research reviews, a detailed article or an interview with someone in the fitness industry.

Many years ago, I started in my own garage gym with a pull up bar, a climbing harness and some loose weights.   A couple of years later, I have a power rack, a Concept 2 rowing machine, a spinning bike and a pile of barbell plates as high as my head.

Along the way, I’ve learned a lot about homemade gym equipment.  I’ve built my own climbing wall, made a couple of plyometric boxes, built a fat bar and farmers’ walk bars, collected a whole barrage of grippers and erected a shed in my garden to house the gardening tools that wouldn’t fit around everything else I had bought.

Ultimately, I’ve learned that you don’t have to have access to top-of-the-class commercial equipment and facilities to have a great strength training experience and to get really strong and lean.  You can read more about my own training here.

You can keep up to date with the latest developments in the fitness industry by signing up to my RSS feed and  by following me on Twitter.  You can get even more information and talk to like-minded people on my Facebook page.

What do I look like?

Since I work in Mergers and Acquisitions, most of the time, I look like this:

Shirt and tie with forearms that just about fit

Please drop me a line if you have any questions, thoughts or suggestions for my site.  I enjoy hearing from people who are interested in strength training and I am happy to help where I can.
