Introducing my blogroll (part two)

I realised that I am on holiday next week and I didn’t really want to spend time this week doing a links post.  So rather than leave you all hanging for a couple of posts at the end of this week, I thought I’d give you a guided tour of my blogroll…

Just for clarity, there are some great blogs around that I follow very closely (they could be yours!) but I don’t put them on my blogroll unless they are directly related to strength training or I happen to know the authors personally.  For example, I follow a number of blogs about athletic performance but I don’t link to them because I write a strength blog.

Without further ado, here are some great blogs and sites that I direct people towards.  They are mostly about strength…

  1. Mike Mahler - another RKC, Mike concentrates on lifting bigger kettlebells to gain strength and size.  His own story of how he left a stressful city job for a happier existance is inspirational and his discussion of how stress impacts on hormonal levels is worth getting familiar with.
  2. Mike Robertson - Mike is a contemporary of Eric Cressey and another corrective exercise and rehabilitation expert.  His expert knowledge of the knee is worth tapping into if you come across anyone with knee pain and his easy-going style and manner make for enjoyable reading.
  3. Precision Nutrition - John Berardi’s site for helping people achieve their fitness and body composition goals with the aid of correct nutrition.  John’s thoughts on nutrition have helped me gain the functional mass that I needed to achieve my goals so I can recommend looking into his work.
  4. Project Goliath - I am very proud to say that this blog is maintained by an up-and-coming UK strongman and that the weight he is moving is just unreal.  Check him out for 220kg front squats, 340kg rack pulls and 190kg bench presses.  It’s mainly a workout blog but there are discussions of fitness and strength-related matters in abundance and plenty of amusement and life thrown in for good measure.
  5. Real World Health and Training - the blog of my friend Rob Newman, a personal trainer based in Manchester, UK.  Rob is multi-talented and often surprises through the sheer variety of workouts he performs.  Also a keen cook, he publishes recipes regularly and he isn’t afraid to say what he thinks.
  6. Rob Russell - the personal site of my friend Rob Russell, a man-mountain from Yorkshire.  Rob is a keen sportsman and former high-level shot put athlete.  He’s now mainly known for his super-heavy kettlebell antics, as well as strongman.
  7. RossTraining - RossTraining is the home of Ross Enamait, an innovative trainer and fan of homemade gym equipment.  Check his site out for all kinds of tips and tricks, including a whole litany of garage gym implements that will keep you busy for a long time.
  8. Samson Strength and Conditioning - an inspirational personal story of a man who took himself from fat to ripped and then out the other side to strongman competitor.  Now he helps other people attain similar goals.
  9. Sandow Plus - Sandow Plus is a great repository for articles, clippings and journals about the great oldtime strongmen, including Apollon, Louis Cyr, Thomas Inch and Eugen Sandow himself.
  10. Shoggoth Basement - Jason Steeves is a man on a mission to obtain an iron grip.  He seems to be doing pretty well so far.  Check out his progress on this workout blog.
  11. Squat RX - and Boris is also on a mission but this one is to teach the world to squat properly.  Join him in his crusade to help make the world a better place through the correct application of the king of all exercises.
  12. Strength Coach Podcasts - Mike Boyle’s Strength Coach podcasts, run by Anthony Renna, are great for listening to in the car and they always feature some great information by some of the most familiar names in the field.
  13. Strength Rules - Josh Hanagarne’s strength site for all kinds of mainstream and off-the-wall stuff relating to strength feats and muscle.
  14. Strongerman - Bud Jeffries squats the proverbial house and he can all kinds of strange and wonderful strength feats to boot.
  15. Sugden Barbell - the home of the UK’s small fraternity of powerlifters and strongmen.  Be warned, however, while US strength and bodybuilding forums can be rough, these guys really don’t take any prisoners at all…
  16. Sumoman - currently moving, Sumoman’s site is a quirky and fascinating look into the life of a garage gym lifter in the UK.  You can see his Vimeo site here.
  17. Superhuman Radio - the one and only Carl Lanore applies his endless enthusiasm to a number of influential and trend-setting guests.
  18. Testosterone Nation - the original and arguably still the best place to find the top quality free articles on strength and conditioning subjects.  A massive marketing machine, there is a lot of hype here but if you can wade through it there is much of benefit.
  19. The Janda Approach - the official site dedicated to the work of Czech physiotherapist Vladimir Janda, who was instrumental in helping us understand how postural issues caused pain.
  20. The Science of Sport - a great site dedicated to investigating the scientific issues in sport today, including the genetic potential of the human being for breaking records, doping and steroids and much more besides.  A must for all sports fans.
  21. Tony Gentilcore - Tony is a deservedly very popular writer who took TC’s maxim to heart that people want to be entertained as well as educated.  Tony’s blog is educational and entertaining and well worth your attention.
  22. Walk the Road Less Travelled - Adam T Glass is a grip fiend and all-round strength athlete with a number of unique perspectives on how to get stronger, feel better and keep progressing.
  23. World’s Strongest Librarian - Josh Hanagarne’s main site about personal development, books and much more.
  24. Zach Even-Esh - the original warehouse gym success story, Zach is a big personality.

That’s it for this week.  Next week I’ve got my top links from the whole of 2010…
