Another week, another great set of links (if I say so myself).
- Let’s get the Star Wars links out of the way early again, for those of you who find it baffling that these cult science fiction films are so popular. This week’s link is a great little comic staring that villain of villains, Darth Vader.
- I am quite happy to admit, quite unashamedly, that I go around with the attitude of a 5 year old most of the time. Which is why I enjoyed this video of a tree branch falling on power lines and combusting into flames.
- If you’ve been following the Winter Olympics, relive them with this slideshow of some memorable moments. And if you’re curious about the numbers, you can read them here.
- According to Powerlifting Watch, World’s Strongest Man competitor Laurence Shahlaei registered a 2,055lbs (932.5kg) total on Sunday at the unsanctioned Raw Powerlifting Competition in Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. The meet was Shahlaei’s first powerlifting competition. Shahlaei squatted 771lbs (350kg), benched 440lbs (200kg) and deadlifted 843lbs (382.5kg). Watch the video here and see whether you agree with me that he probably had some more gas in the tank. Those lifts just flew up.
- And if you thought that was inspiring, read this article about Joe Mazza’s four (yes, four) times bodyweight bench press of 685lbs in the 165lbs weight class. And here I am complaining about struggling to lift 220lbs…
- Check out Rob Russell flipping an 80kg kettlebell if you’re still waving little ones around. Learn the art of possible.
- I confess that I don’t know much about music. I know what I like to play in my garage gym (in current order of preference: Disturbed, RAGTM, Prodigy, Motorhead) but outside of the gym I’m a bit lost. I don’t really see the point of it. However, I recognise obsessive knowledge and gifted writing when I see it and if you have any interest in Michael Jackson whatsoever, take a few minutes to read this post by the ever eloquent Aaron Friday.
- If you haven’t spotted that Westside Barbell are now running a blog, you might want to take a few minutes to check it out. You know, since they’re like the world experts on getting stronger…
- I am delighted to have another Calvin & Hobbes post this week, with “I am Jack’s overwhelming sense of awe“.
- I completely identified with Tony Gentilcore when he posted about the amount of stick he gets for buying eggs. It amazes him, like it amazes me, that people never stop commenting about how many eggs we buy and how unhealthy they (think that they) are. Even when the person in front is buying a case of fizzy pop and ten party bags of snickers. Some marketeer really managed to do a number on eggs at some point in the past and is still laughing up their sleeve about it.
- Another great post from the Yoda of exercise science, Bill Hartman, on the subject of developing the lower trapezius.
And finally, because I am a huge sci-fi fan and I am not completely bound to Star Wars, here is the latest Iron Man 2 trailer.
Short and sweet this week. I hope you enjoy them.
I write a post every day so don’t forget to subscribe or you’ll miss out
