Welcome CrossFitters!

It has just been drawn to my attention that a number of CrossFit websites have linked to my blog.  I am very grateful to them for noticing this little corner of the internet.  Thank you for linking.

I have huge respect for CrossFit and CrossFitters and I wish you all the best in your training.  May you train without injury, hit new PRs every week and lose fat with gusto (if that’s your bag).

Disclaimer

However, please note the following disclaimer (amongst other things):

  • I don’t do CrossFit myself
  • My goals are purely strength-related (largely bodyweight+ moves)
  • I can’t Olympic lift
  • I wouldn’t know which end of a kettlebell to pick up
  • I am not a physical therapist or a personal trainer

In fact, the only thing I would consider myself an expert at is weighted pull-ups, having hit 70kg at a bodyweight of 72.5kg…

What you can find here

What you can expect to find here is someone who:

  • shares your passion for training
  • is fascinated by the workings of the human body
  • is driven by achieving new PRs
  • enjoys pushing themselves to the limit of their ability

If that interests you (and knowing CrossFit, I’m sure it does), then please stick around.  I look forward to writing for you.

One more thing.  If you’re looking for material on hip mobility, then please read Mike Robertson on the subject.  His writing is to my articles like Chopin is to chopsticks.

Hi Chris, CrossFit is strangely adictive. If we can get you started on it, I’m sure you’ll be hooked!

Hmm, yes. It has its attractions, I can see that. My main issues with it for me are:

      1. My goals are very strength specific. I have a very clear idea about where I want to go and how I’m going to build on what I’ve done so far.
      2. I have limited recovery time and adding in metcon will not particularly help with that.
      3. I am not very co-ordinated. So when I clean or snatch, heavy implements tend to get bounced off ceilings and walls. This is viewed poorly by other people in the house.
      4. I’m a control freak and spend hours fretting over the minutiae of my workouts.

Having said that, I was a lurker on the CrossFit boards a few years back, when people like Steven Low, Gant Grimes and others from Catalyst where still posting there. I probably fall more naturally into that ballpark than CrossFit (but note caveat re Olympic lifting!).
